We’re featured in The Parliamentary Review
The Tech Dept have been featured as a ‘Best Practice Representative’ in The Parliamentary Review 2019, in a review of the UK’s technology sector published and co-Chaired by former MPs, Lord David Blunkett & Lord Eric Pickles.
We celebrated our 15th birthday in June 2019, which meant we naturally took stock of everything we’d learnt in that time. Being asked to contribute to The Parliamentary Review meant that others can share this insight — which our CEO Dan Kirby wrote up in a 1000-word essay.
We’ve seen that the biggest mistake companies make when choosing new technology is to focus primarily on the tech, rather than the improvement that the tech is supposed to make. You can waste a lot of time and money that way.
This issue of The Parliamentary Review features articles from prominent politicians such as Michael Gove and Liz Truss and leading commentators including the BBC’s Andrew Neil. The Tech Dept is one of nine tech businesses which have contributed essays this year.
The Parliamentary Review is distributed to 500,000 people including Government, business leaders, and the wider great & good!

The Launch Event: a photo diary
The Review was launched at a special Gala event at The Houses of Parliament on September 4th 2019. Which just happened to be the night that MPs got together to veto Boris Johnson’s Brexit plans…
So our co-founders Dan Kirby and Rick Grundy tip-toed past the protestors and into the beating heart of British Democracy.
They enjoyed great views of the Thames, a few drinks, followed by speeches from Olympian Denise Lewis and the BBC’s heavyweight political commentator, Andrew Neil (on whose show Rick had made an inadvertent appearance, ambling through a Westminster lobby). All the political types were very apologetic about the state of the politics in the UK.
So all in all, historic times for both The Tech Dept and the country!
